FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions New Zealand business owners ask when time is short.
Speed
How quickly can my business be funded?
Same-day funding is possible for smaller unsecured amounts. With property security, $20k to $250k is possible same day, and up to $5m is possible within 24–48 hours, once the file is complete.
What usually holds funding up?
Statements that haven't been linked, a director or trustee who can't sign, issues that weren't disclosed, slow valuations, and waiting on a current bank for a payout figure or consent.
Does the day I enquire make a difference?
Yes. An enquiry early on a working day has the most time to move. Friday afternoon enquiries and regional anniversary days can push things into the following week.
Does fast funding cost more?
Often. Short-term specialist lending priced for speed can cost more than a slower bank loan. Weigh the extra cost against what waiting would cost the business.
Amounts and security
How much can a New Zealand business borrow?
Unsecured, cash flow and revolving credit for trading businesses typically runs from $5,000 to $500,000, sized on turnover and bank statements. Property-backed business loans run from $20,000 to $5,000,000 against residential or commercial property.
Do I need property?
Not for smaller sums if the business trades well. Property helps with larger amounts, newer businesses, accounts that are behind and past credit issues.
What if my home is in a family trust?
That's common and usually fine. The trustees sign the loan documents, and the lender will want to see the trust deed. Letting trustees know early keeps things on schedule.
Why don't you publish interest rates?
Every business loan is priced on the business's situation, security and term, so a published figure would be wrong for most people. We give you the total cost in dollars once we understand your needs.
Credit, tax and paperwork
Can you help if I've had credit problems?
Often. Past credit issues are considered case by case, and property-backed options are the most flexible. Be upfront on the form so it doesn't cause delays later.
Can a loan clear what I owe IRD?
Yes, it's a common use. Compare it with an IRD instalment arrangement, and be upfront about the balance, because lenders will see it.
My GST returns or accounts are behind. Can I still borrow?
Often, especially with property security, because property-backed lenders rely more on the security and the exit than on the accounts. Filing outstanding GST returns first helps.
My business is brand new. Can I borrow?
With property security, often from the start. Without it, most unsecured lenders want around six months of trading through a business account.
Enquiring
Does asking affect my credit file?
No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. A credit check only comes up once you decide to go ahead with a specific option.
Will my details be passed to lots of lenders?
No. One person works on your enquiry and approaches the lender most likely to fund it in time.
Why does an accurate form matter?
Because it decides which route we start on. Accurate amounts, deadlines, turnover, debts and property details mean the first plan is the one that works.
Do you help with personal loans?
No. Everything we arrange is for business purposes only.
